The tent is mainly composed of two parts, one is the aluminum alloy main body, the other is the tarpaulin.

What are the properties of tarpaulin? Tents and tarpaulin products can protect against rain, heat and cold. Therefore, such products are required to have certain performance.

(1) The basic performance requirements of tarpaulin

Taking into account the various uses of tarpaulin, the general requirements are:

(1) Light weight, easy to fold, easy to carry and operate;

(2) High strength, wear resistance, long service life;

(3) Good waterproof and breathable performance, no condensation inside;

(4) Acid and alkali resistance, mold resistance, corrosion resistance;

(5) Good weather resistance, flame retardant and fire resistance;

(6) There is no core suction, no water transfer phenomenon.

Tarpaulin usually needs a “three defense” function. That is, waterproof, fire (flame retardant) and mildew proof.

(2) Main performance indicators

In the specific product design or use, the following tarpaulin performance indicators should be considered.

1, breathability: the breathability of the tarpaulin needs to be considered, especially for military tents. Factors affecting air permeability include the structure of the backing cloth, density, material, type of waterproof finishing agent and adhesion of the resin. With the increase of resin adhesion, the permeability of tarpaulin decreases. This, of course, depends on the finishing agent used. Typically, most breathable tents are made of cotton, vinylon, lacquer, and other short-woven fabrics that are finished with paraffin or acrylic resin.

2, tensile strength: the tarpaulin needs to withstand a variety of tension during use, such as when it will be tightened: during use, it will withstand additional forces, such as wind, rain and saving. Despite these external forces, they are required to maintain their original shape and not easily deform. This requires that the tarpaulin has a high tensile strength, and the tensile strength in the direction of the longitude and latitude lines should not be too different. In particular, the tensile strength of large tents used as inflatable structures is very important. Typically, backcloths are made of high-strength polyester, vinylon, and other long-fiber fabrics. It is waterproof and finished with vinyl chloride resin and chlorosulfonated polyethylene resin. The strength of the product mainly depends on the strength of the fiber material and the density of the fabric.

3, elongation and dimensional stability: as a eave tent and a large tent, it is often used in a tensioned state. The fabric extension should not be too large, and its dimensional stability depends on the creep characteristics of the material.

4, tear strength: the damage of tarpaulin is mainly caused by tearing, so the tear strength is an important sign of tarpaulin. Tear strength is related to whether the tarpaulin will break due to the action of flying foreign objects or for some reason expand into the surrounding environment after forming holes and form large structural cracks. So, when the tension is high. It is not only necessary to have high tensile strength, but also to have high tearing strength.

5, water resistance: water resistance is an important feature of tarpaulin. By dipping and finishing, vinyl chloride fat is filled in the gaps in the fabric tissue to form a coating. If the amount of resin adhesion per unit area exceeds a certain level, water resistance is not a problem. If the coating is thin, it can easily break when bending, rubbing, or wearing down the surface, which can lead to muddy water.

6, flame retardant: starting from the safety of use, the tarpaulin is required to have good flame retardant. Flame retardancy can be obtained by selecting flame retardant fibers and flame retardant substrates. This can also be achieved by adding flame retardants to the paint. The amount of flame retardant added is directly related to the flame retardant effect.

In addition to the above performance requirements, tarps also need excellent cold resistance, heat resistance, tarpaulin, creep resistance, repeated fatigue, wear resistance and bending resistance.
